Queen Anne
One of my first experiences in Seattle was watching fireworks from Kerry Park. It was December 31st, 1999. No one knew if the world was going to abruptly end (remember Y2K?) and no better place find out than the amazing city of Seattle. I remember the crowded street and peering over shoulders and stocking caps as the firework show started. Looking around I noticed the most amazing building behind me. I was with a family friend who told me it was a condo building called The Victoria, and that the units hardly ever changed hands. I was taken by the gothic architecture. I was really not in Kansas anymore. Decades later, Queen Anne still holds an elevated place in my heart and soul. There are at least three different geographical parts to the neighborhood. The North slope of Queen Anne is adjacent to Fremont and is the home of Seattle Pacific University. It's residential in nature with Nickerson being the main thoroughfare. On the South slope is lower Queen Anne. Some refer to it as Uptown, although this seems controversial still. Lower Queen Anne is a busy place; think Seattle Center, Dick's Burgers, more hustle and bustle. The top of Queen Anne is known for its quiet elegance and grand homes. No matter what part of Queen Anne you are in, this is a foundational part of Seattle steeped in history and progress
